Welcome to the Green Valley Model Yacht Club website!
Sailors in the Tucson, Green Valley, and Sahuarita area have formed the Green Valley Model Yacht Club (GVMYC). We are Club number 333 of the American Model Yacht Association. The purpose of the GVMYC is to promote remote controlled model sailing, teach about sailing and sailboat racing, and most importantly to have fun!
The club meets at Lake Sahuarita located in the town of Sahuarita, AZ, just off I-19 at the Sahuarita Road exit. We have a special use permit from the town of Sahuarita for our events on the lake.
Scored racing is on the 1st and 3rd Sundays of each month (except when holidays effect the schedule, see the schedule on the News Ticker below).

ALL RACING CANCELLED UNTIL OUR LAKE PERMIT IS REINSTATED
Our club is sanctioned by the American Model Yachting Association, (AMYA) as Club number 333. We sail a number of AMYA class boats.
In the model builder class we sail US1M/ODOM. The US One Meter is an advanced (and expensive) class. Also a number of our skippers sail the ODOM (One Design, One Meter) which are a legal US One Meter. To make racing fair for the ODOMs, US One Meters will be restricted to B sail rigs only. On a smaller scale we also sail the Victoria, an inexpensive 30.7" long R/C sailboat kit made by Thunder Tiger. Victoria kits are available at your local hobby shop or off the web. The sail boats are controlled with a 2 channel radio. The cost of a Victoria boat kit is approx. $190 not including a basic radio system which costs about $50. Club members are available to assist new members with kit construction if necessary.
For A Ready to Race boat we have the Dragon Flite 95 and Dragon Force 65. These boats are popular due to their low cost, ease to assembly and readiness to sail. Ready to Race kits (including sails, radio, and servos, just add batteries) starting at $199 for the DF65, and $375 for the DF95. See the resources tab for more links to more info.
Please join us to learn more about model yacht sailing and our club. Bring your sail boat if you have one. New member prospects can borrow our Victoria club boat to try their hand at the sport at any of our events (Contact the Commodore for info). All levels of experience are welcome! If you have another AMYA class boat (Seawind, Micro Magic, Marblehead, etc.) bring it down to the lake and we'll fit you in.
If you have any questions or need additional information please e-mail our Commodore Russ Schaeffer at Russ69XX@cox.net (replace XX with 69).
